Creating a Conduit
1: Open an existing People Record or create a new one for the campaign or committee you wish to become a Conduit. In the People Profile, click on the Conduit Panel Box.
2: This will open the Conduit Information Page. Here you will fill out the conduit’s information, including the required fields: Conduit No and Committee Name.
3: If you would like Crimson to track election limits for the conduit, then engage the toggle Campaign Committee on the right hand side.
a: Then select any applicable election boxes. If using the Other box make sure to type what the other election is in the “Other Election” field.
b: For limit, put the contribution limit.
c: If desired and applicable, you can add Primary Election and Primary Runoff Election dates. Crimson will automatically update the Default Election field to the next election once the date has passed (e.g. if there is a Primary Runoff on May 26th, on May 27th Crimson will update the Default Election to the General).
d: Select a Default Election and fill out the Election Year.
Entering Conduits in Data Entry
The process for entering conduits through data entry is simple and closely mirrors the steps used to enter a contribution. However, there are some Conduit specific fields.
For further information on entering in contributions through data entry, please see Crimson: Contributions - Data Entry
- Once you have entered the donor and transaction information, click
to add your conduit. If needed, clicking this icon multiple times allows you to add multiple conduits to one donation.
- The following menu will appear. Here you can search for the conduit using the Committee Name or Conduit No. Confirm or enter the corresponding amount and fee. Crimson will calculate the net automatically based on this information.
- Clicking the
icon, will display a summary of receipt totals per election. Based on the limits set on that Conduit’s information page, it will note how much the donor has available to give to this conduit. Please keep in mind, this is only a reflection of the amount tracked in your database. It is not a guarantee that the donor can contribute that amount to a political committee.
- The Election and Year will default to the Conduit Information Page. But if the donor has already maxed out or an election has passed, you can select another election from the drop down.
- Trying to save an overlimit donor's contribution to a conduit (based on the information in this database), Crimson will give you a warning message.
